Set on a split-level block in a salubrious suburb on Sydney’s North Shore, this impressive family home lacked a functional outdoor entertaining area.
The brief was to create a welcoming space that included an outdoor kitchen, seamlessly connected to the house on the upper level.
A wide, flowing staircase was constructed in free-form concrete to tie and retain the upper level. This leads to a large, welcoming space designed around a circular footprint to define the entertaining and kitchen elements of the family area.
The circular motif is mirrored in the roof structure, bringing the design together as a unified whole. We then used the arc of the peripheral circle to create a spectacular three by eight metre water feature over stacked stone.
This special place now offers a connected, engaging area for the family to entertain expansively or simply enjoying the ambience of their leafy surroundings.
